Hi, I’ve been using WP Mail SMTP for a long time now and it’s been working great.

However recently I started getting messages on my WordPress dashboard telling me that there have been emails that failed to send:

But when I check WP Mail Logging for any reports of failed emails, there are none:

My SMTP configuration has not changed, my users have not reported any failed emails, every email sent has been successfully captured within Elementor’s Submissions, and I have been receiving emails successfully from before and after I started seeing that message on the dashboard.

So I’m wondering: how do I track down this one failed email? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi there @sidewindern7,

Thanks for reaching out! What I would do is check the Debug Log in WP Mail SMTP. If there was a problem connecting to the mailer to send an email, you should find an entry in the debug log. The entry will have a time and date that the error occurred, and you can cross-reference it with what you see in WP Mail Logging. If no one has complained about any emails not getting through, it may have been an automated email.

I hope that helps! Have a great day! ??

    Hi @dpinson,

Thanks for the tip! I had a look at Debug Events in WP Mail SMTP and I found that it was an automated email originating from the Broken Link Checker plugin that failed.

I figured WP Mail Logging should’ve caught this; maybe it was at too early a stage to even register because the request timed out? Not sure what caused that, though things are fine now so I’m treating it as a one-off. I’m glad it wasn’t a user’s email.

Marking this as resolved. Thank you again!
