    Hi,

Recently some posts and text widgets appear to have been saved but the changes I have made don’t appear when I view the site. When I check back I find the post or widget has reverted to an earlier version.

One particular problem I have is this entry for a text widget:

    <p><a href="https://ilfordsouthlabour.org.uk/?p=885"><img src="https://ilfordsouthlabour.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/betterKenthumb.gif" /></a></p>

Any advice gratefully received. I have submitted a support ticket with my hosting provider in case there’s been some sort of problem with the server over the past few days.

    Thanks, Dave

My hosting service resolved the problem for me as follows:

“We have disabled the offending mod security rule for the domain.”

I asked for an explanation and whether this would leave the site more open to hacking/viruses as the header.php of my theme was recently replaced by “you have been attacked by Hmei7”. I didn’t understand the reply but it was basically reassuring me while pointing me in the direction of the “Hardening WordPress” article in the Codex.

Having looked up modsecurity I found this explanation: others may find it useful:

I haven’t pursued this any further with my host. While I would like more explanation I have been very impressed with their speed of response and abiilty to provide accurate advice and resolutions on the few occasions I’ve needed support. Host is WebHosting UK.

Thanks to anyone who’s looked at this post.

    Dave.
