Failed WP Update

    I performed a Softaculous update of the WordPress Installation on forhacsec.com after receiving an email prompting for the update to be performed. Since performing the update the site just doesn’t load at all and displays nothing but a blank page with no errors. It also fails to load the WP login/Dashboard page.

    I can still get the hosts CPanel which also reports issue with the WP installation.

    I did originally try updating the version of WP within WP itself within the Dashboard however this reported an error and failed.

    The host can re-store the site from backup, however I thought I’d try here first to see if this has been experienced previously.

    This was to update from V 3.6 to 3.6.1 I believe.

  • Are you sure all plugins and theme you were using, are compatible with wordpress 3.6.1? Maybe one plugin or your theme has a small problem with WP 3.6.1 and it caused this problem. Now as you said, you have a complete backup and can restore it anytime you want. So i suggest you to delete some plugins that you guess have problem with WP 3.6.1 and also please return to default theme twenty thirteen and check your website again.

    Good point. The theme and plug-ins have survived bigger WP upgrades in the past, however I appreciate it doesn’t take much to knock things off course.

    In order to do that I’d need to delete the plugins via FTP, which I can do.

    However, the theme is quite heavily customised and as I am unable to access the WP Dashboard, I am unable to change the theme through WP. It would mean removing it (or renaming it) via FTP in the hope the default WP theme would kick in, I think?
