We just attempted to upgrade Ninja Forms plugin from version 3.3.7 to 3.3.9 in our test environment (which we always do before upgrading in our production environment). We performed a bulk upgrade of 4 plugins via the WordPress dashboard and only the Ninja Forms plugin update failed (we were notified of the failure via bold, red text in the Ninja Forms plugin status on the WordPress dashboard).

After the failed update (or apparent failure since the update told us it failed), the version of Ninja Forms is 3.3.9. However, we were never prompted for the Ninja Forms data cleanup which we have seen when upgrading other sites from 3.3.7 to 3.3.9.

Is there a way to manually invoke the Ninja Forms data cleanup so that we don’t have to revert to our site backup and start again?

It appears that an upgrade from 3.3.7 to 3.3.9 does not require a Ninja Forms “data clean-up.” I reverted my site to the backup and applied the Ninja Forms 3.3.7 to 3.3.9 upgrade (by itself with no other plugin updates) without any issues.

I’d still like to know why the upgrade failed.

You can manually invoke the cleanup under Ninja Forms > Settings by clicking on the “Trash Expired Submissions” button
