We had a payment that failed today with the following error, any idea why?

Failed to process the payment. Please try again or contact the shop admin. 

[INVALID_REQUEST] Request is not well-formed, syntactically incorrect, or violates schema.

Ok we did an order, and if failed, this is the error the front end showed:

Failed to process the payment. Please try again or contact the shop admin. Hi @mawebdesignuk,

Thanks for sharing the log. This helps a lot.

The offending field is the billing country: "field":"/shipping/address/country_code","value":"ENG"
England, Scotland, & Wales are likely custom billing regions as WooCommerce does not provide these by default. Setting the country code like ENG can make sense in some cases, but PayPal may not accept them.
So to make PayPal work, I suggest attempting to set the country codes for all three options to GB, and it should at least resolve the error from the log.
How this must be done depends on how you are creating these custom regions.

That’s strange, we use this function to add new countries: https://woocommerce.com/document/add-a-new-country-to-countries-list/

Thanks, yes, with this function I can also reproduce the behavior. Changing the locale to GB seems to resolve the issue, though.
