Failed to connect to www.googleapis.com

Sometimes – and just sometimes – I get the following error when a mail i supposedly sent from the server:

Error executing wp_remote_post: Failed to connect to https://www.googleapis.com port 443: Network is unreachable

Any ideas how to fix it?
