• Resolved gpowerhost

    Hello,

We have suspected some issue for over a week now and have spent days trying to solve it. It seems that caching prevented me seeing that taxcloud was preventing many of our checkouts from completing.

We are getting reports that folks can’t checkout due to this error:
? Failed to calculate sales tax: cURL error 6: Could not resolve host: api.taxcloud.net (see https://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/c/libcurl-errors.html)

    We’ve had to disable taxcloud.

As the error message suggests, your server can’t communicate with api.taxcloud.net. Specifically your DNS server is unable to resolve that hostname to an IP address. This is a server configuration issue and not a bug in Simple Sales Tax.

Please out to your web host to determine why that host can’t be resolved and get the issue fixed.

    Thanks,
    Brett

If you are suggesting that there’s and issue on our end, there’s nothing wrong with cURL on our server TaxCloud just refuses to answer. So, either your plugin has changed the way it asks or api.taxcloud.net is refusing our request. Possibly the latter. Maybe it’s a firewall issue on api.taxcloud.net end. To illustrate that api. is selectively blocking requests:

    Go here:
    https://ip-lookup.net/domain.php

    Enter in the domain: “api.taxcloud.net”
and there is no dns response.

    Enter in the domain “taxcloud.net”
    and there is.

Please reach out to TaxCloud with this information so they can fix that issue: https://taxcloud.com/contact. I don’t control the TaxCloud API, I just use it in this plugin.

    Thanks,
    Brett
