I am having trouble updating plugins, themes and uploading files to wordpress.
The problem started when I disabled the litespeed on my server and enabled Nginx. Suddenly I was asked for FTP credentials in order to update the plugins. I added the “define(‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);” to the wp-config. After that I am getting the error “Update failed: Could not create directory. …./public_html/wp-content/upgrade/woocommerce-8.8.3-el”, no matter which plugin I am trying to update.
At the begging this looked like a classic permissions issue, so I changed all folders to 755 and all files to 644. This did not help.
Then I maid sure that the user is properly set for all folders and files. That also did not make any change.
I increased the memory limit up to 2GB and this also did not help.

Is there anything else I could try?

After I turned off Litespeed the server runs on Apache. So, It was a user issue.
Changed user and now it works.
