    Tried for hours and can’t get it to work. I’ve created two FB apps, and various times tokens. Gave up. Now, a week later another try. I removed one app, so there’s no possible confusion. ?? Still no luck.

    https://docs.mashshare.net/article/123-how-to-create-facebook-app-id
    It’s confusing: Under step 7 it reads “Copy the App ID into MashShare > Networks > Facebook User Access Token and you are done:”
    App id?
    In step 8 I shall enter the token into the same field instead.
    I guess step 7 is wrong?

    If I use…
    https://graph.facebook.com/v2.7/?id=https://www.mydomain.com/&access_token=myUserToken
    …all I get is:
    {
    “id”: “https://www.mydomain.com/”
    }

    If I enter a token I never get an error or a confirmation message under the button. Only if I enter the app id, I get “Wrong access token”.

    I enter the app’s USER Token, not the App Token, right?

    My FB app is live and has user_friends, public_profile on. It’s of type WWW. That alone was a challenge because of the horrible UI on Facebook and the non-matching tutorial.

    Side note: I had previously another plugin which had no problems with share counts on shared hosting. It had tracking buttons, so I switched to Mashshare. Maybe you can look how other it do, without a FB app?

  • Hi,

    you are right, it was misleading. I fixed it.

    If the access token method is not working for you, just remove the access token and the share count is gathered nevertheless.

    Read this to learn more about it: https://docs.mashshare.net/article/132-how-to-create-a-facebook-access-token

    Thank you very much, Rene. Without the token I do get the “Your website exceeded the Facebook rate limit.” message.
    I see some shares, but I’m not sure if they are complete present for all posts – and correct for every single post.

    So, without the token, the update happens by chance, maybe only every few days, right?
    Let’s say it is lucky connecting to FB – can I then assume that shares for ALL posts are correctly updated, or only for one/a few posts?
    In other words – if I see a change in the share count for one post, can I assume that all other posts have been correctly updated too?

    In that case I would wait up to 24 hours. It’s possible that the rate issue is gone than. If it’s still there you have no guarantee that the shares are accurate.

    Best way would be to make the access token working.

    Sometimes it works to use another domain name in FB app settings. You could try that. At worst you could create another FB account.

    This topic isn’t resolved.

    I think it’s possible that I’m doing it wrong on FB. The problem is I have no idea what I really to choose for the app type.
    https://docs.mashshare.net/article/123-how-to-create-facebook-app-id
    I shall choose “WWW” which doesn’t exist if I create a new app on FB. I can only guess it’s maybe “Analytics”, after that I get a choice for “WWW”, but I get that choice also for other types, so I’m not sure what to choose in the first step.

    I forgot: I just tried again because version 3.4.5 mention changes regarding the token issue. Yes, I do now always get “invalid token”, but otherwise only “unknown error”, and under
    https://graph.facebook.com/v2.7/?id=https://www.mydomain.com/&access_token=myUserToken
    …all I get is:
    {
    “id”: “https://www.mydomain.com/”
    }

    Yes, i notice the same behavior. It seems the access token is not working any longer as expected. Maybe facebook changed something. So you need to remove it at all and increase the mashshare cache refresh while loading delay time to a higher value like 6 hours or similar.
