Facebook Title and Description not working

    Editing the Title and Description for the Facebook settings does not change these on Facebook. The og:description and title are not changed. I have viewed the page sources and they are not added in any part of the open graph data.

    I’m using the 11.5 release.

  • After making those edits, you’ll have to make certain that ALL page/server caches have been cleared, Dan.

    Then, once you see the correct Open Graph tags in your page’s source code, you’ll need to use the Facebook Debugger to force FB to clear its own cache and rescrape the new og: data.

    Sorry, should have been clearer. Yeah I tried all of that already. Still not able to get it working.

    As a test, in the Yoast plugin I added two periods to the end of the OG description, instead of the exclamation mark that currently appears.

    So instead of “like this!” I changed it to “like this..”

    But if you run the debugger to scrape again, as I have done many times now, this change is not shown.

    On my site I cleared my caching plugin, and cloudflare.

    You’ve got two different tools adding Open Graph data to that page, Dan. Likely two separate plugins.

    The Facebook tags in Yoast appear to be turned off, and it’s the “other” tool or plugin that is inserting the FB open graph (which is obviously not where you’re editing).

    You can tell this by looking at the page’s source code – there’s a line of code at line 25 that includes both FB and Twitter data. This isn’t managed by Yoast

    Then there’s another block starting at line 30 that is the code inserted by Yoast, but it’s Twitter only, no FB Open Graph data, which suggests the FB data is turned off in the Yoast config settings.

    You’re going to need to settle on only one source of all that Open Graph/Twitter data and disable the other completely – having two conflicting plugins handling it is obviously no bueno for many reasons.

    [Edited to mention – looked a little more carefully at the page code – it’s Social Warfare that is inserting the extra set of Open Graph tagging]
