First off this plugin is great and so much more robust than the old plugin we were trying. However, I still cannot seem to get the Facebook thumbnails to behave when clicking the “share” button. Here’s what it’s doing:

On every post that contains a video, the video is used as the thumbnail. This is fine.

On a very few posts, the correct featured image will display as the thumbnail: https://www.ashvegas.com/asheville-chef-william-dissen-to-host-dinner-at-james-beard-foundation-house-in-march

On every other post, the default image (site logo) is used as the thumbnail instead of the featured image. Example: https://www.ashvegas.com/family-emergency-pulls-wlos-anchor-darcel-grimes-away-from-on-air-duties

Except that when I view source, I can see that the featured image is used in the open graph tag.

Is it not working because the images are often 300px wide but not tall enough? I have the image settings at 300×200 because the images are often around that size (the default Medium size in this WP install is 300×300).

If I run the page through the Facebook object debugger, the thumbnails show up and somehow it clears a cache and the next time I hit the “share” button, it pulls in the correct image!

    – What do I need to do to insure that correct image gets pulled in from the get go, instead of running every single one through the debugger?

My guess is these pages have been crawled by Facebook before you installed NGFB Open Graph+. Using the Facebook debugger, you can clear their cache. If the Post/Page has been *shared* previously, then not even the Facebook debugger can save you — you have to change the URL to refresh the info.

A lot of this stuff is covered in the FAQs, so you might want to have a look.

It’s not a uncommon problem, and I’ve considered forcing Facebook to refresh their cache on every Post/Page “Update”, but this might be overkill, and Facebook probably wouldn’t like it too much. ??

I’m guessing new Posts/Pages are ok, right?

Thanks, JS, it does look like the correct image is being pulled in on the new posts (this is a huge relief!). I suppose I was confusing things by looking at older posts and debugging them.

Thanks for explaining about how if a post has been shared it’s already cached the image. Since the new posts are correct that’s all I’m worried about.
