Facebook sharing button does not always show

    The Facebook sharing button does not always show when a post is viewed. Refreshing sometimes will get it to show up. Many times, it stubbornly remains missing. I’ve refreshed the page four or five times without successfully getting it to show up. Obviously, site visitors will not reload the page even once to get the button to show. And without the button, I’m losing Facebook shares.

    On top of this, the sharing buttons and other Jetpack features are killing my page load times. And in the case of the Facebook sharing button, it’s the worst of all worlds in that the page is slow to load, waiting and waiting for the Facebook button to appear and then it never does!

    You seem to be using the “Official Buttons” style to display sharing buttons on your site. That means that each one of the sharing buttons is a little iFrame that loads a button directly from each Social Network.

    This has 2 consequences:

    • Each button will have an impact on your site’s loading time; 8 different iFrames can take a really long time to load.
    • Neither you or Jetpack has much control over how the iFrame is loaded; if the Facebook button doesn’t appear it indicates connection issues with Facebook, and there isn’t much you can do about it unfortunately.

    To avoid both of these issues, I’d recommend that you switch to a different button style. You can do so under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard. If you switch to a non-official button style, the buttons will load faster and they will always load. There will be no loading issues as the buttons use local resources from your site, and do not rely on 8 different external sites and all the scripts and styles they load.

    Thank you, Jeremy. I’ve changed button style to icon+text and it’s much better now. Thanks again!
