    (@averixus)

The facebook debugger gives these errors when testing most pages (e.g. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/?q=https%3A%2F%2Fparvusplants.uk%2Farticle%2Fcare-guide-drosera-capensis):

    • Could Not Connect To Server: Check that the webserver is running, and that there are no firewalls blocking Facebook’s crawlers.
    • Curl Error: Curl error: 56 (RECV_ERROR)
    • Inferred Property: The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
    • Missing Properties: The following required properties are missing: og:url, og:type, og:title, og:image, og:description, fb:app_id

There don’t seem to be any issues with the server, and those og tags are all set in the page source. But facebook doesn’t even use a default image and title, never mind the ones set in the source.

Other pages have working facebook previews (e.g. the homepage, https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/?q=https%3A%2F%2Fparvusplants.uk%2F).

This problem seems to have developed recently (in the last few weeks?) but I’m not sure whether it’s associated with a particular update. I’ve tried disabling all plugins and it had no effect.

    Site health info:

This also Happened with my Website Boca Raton Electrician.

Hi @averixus , we seem to be having a similar issue. Any chance you could share what was being blocked by your host? I’ve contacted our hosting provider and they couldn’t see anything.

Hi @df50, I’m not sure how helpful I can be but I’ll give you all the information I have. My host said this in reply to my question:

I believe the IP may have been blocked by our server firewall, I’ve cleared out the firewall blocks and i’m seeing a 200 OK response via the Facebook Debug tool.

It looks like this was being classed as a bad bot / bad crawler on our server.

We’ve adjusted your .htaccess file to state that this is a Good Bot and to allow it through, the firewall block appears to have likely been from when this was being classed as a bad bot by the system, so this should now be fine going forward.

I looked in the .htaccess file and found these added lines. I’m not sure if they’re host-specific or not (I’m with EcoHosting) but just in case it helps:

    BrowserMatchNoCase “(?:\b)FacebookBot(?:\b)” good_bot
    BrowserMatchNoCase “(?:\b)facebookexternalhit(?:\b)” good_bot
    BrowserMatchNoCase “(?:\b)Facebot(?:\b)” good_bot
