Facebook picking random image for shared posts

    When I (or somebody else) tries to share a post from my blog on Facebook, Facebook seems to just grab a random image to use as thumbnail. Which image is used for each post also seems to change on an almost daily basis. Most of the times, the image chosen is not even from the post I am trying to share.

    I have tried setting a featured image for each post, specifying the post image in my SEO tool, etc. but nothing works.

    Can anybody help? My website is bitbyfit.com.

  • I read in another post it gets it from the OpenGraph code in the actual webpage. In the source of your page, look for “<meta property=”og:image” content=”PATH TO IMAGE” />”. This is the image FB will use, but the developer did not say how the Wordperss plugin generates the og:image tag. I have a case where the value is missing. Good Luck!

    Run your the FB debugger on your post to see if you get any errors…

    Hi Martong,

    Thanks for the help. I think the problem is that I don’t have any og:image tag at all. The other og tags are there but no image. How did you fix the case with the missing value?

    Actually, when I enter the specific post in the debugger (not just the main blog page), I don’t get any error messages and it shows the two images in the post as og:images. And then Facebook picks a random image from the site header to show….

    New update ??
    After running the debugger on each post I apparently reset something. Now Facebook identifies the correct og:images for each post. However, it doesn’t chose the right one. I have set “featured image” for each post but Facebook shows the last picture of the post instead.

    I also get an error message that the og;image is not “at least 200×200 px” even though the first image in the post (and the featured image) it actually 1144X772.
