Since the facebook publicize connection broke last week, I can’t reconnect my facebook page.

During the time it was down, I didn’t know you had issues so tried to disconnect and reconnect back then.
I couldn’t do it and now the page isn’t even showing on the list of FB pages.

I have disconnected everything many times and tried everything on the help pages.

My other sites work fine, just not this one. The others I didn’t fiddle with during the facebook issues.

I have decades of experience with wordpress and jetpack and made over 50 blogs over the years as well as being a website designer for 20 years so I have tried everything possible.

I just don’t get why the facebook page isn’t showing.

Ironically, one of my other pages is one of the new look facebook pages and even that shows on the list of pages I have.

Just not this one that was connected without issues for many years that I cannot get to show up even if I untick every other page!

Disconnected wordpress, facebook, jetpack, deselected all other pages too, still nothing.

And yes the site has open tags. It worked fine for over 3 years with no issues until this facebook outage from the other week. I just can’t get it to link at all now!

  • Hey @ukheather

Sometimes, the connection between Facebook and Jetpack might get disconnected and you are not able to reconnect directly.

Not to worry, you can follow these steps to disconnect and reconnect your Jetpack to Facebook.

Please do the following, in this specific order:

1 – Access your site [**Dashboard → Tools → Marketing → Connections**]. Look for your social media connection and click on the ‘**Disconnect**’ button.

2 – Disconnect your Jetpack, using these [**instructions**]

3 – Remove WordPress from your allowed Applications on your social media account(s).

    * You can revoke your Business integrations at https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=business_tools&ref=settings
    * You can revoke the access at https://twitter.com/settings/connected_apps
    * LinkedIn’s instructions for revoking app access https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/1207/third-party-applications-data-use?lang=en

4 – Reconnect your Jetpack, using these [**instructions**]

5 – Reconnect your social media profile(s) at [**Dashboard → Tools → Marketing → Connections**]. Look for your social media connection and click on the ‘**Connect’ button**’.

Then, make a test post and see if it was shared on your social channels.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle

yes I have done all that as I mentioned in my post.

I have done it 22 times so far over 3 days.
23 times now as just done it again too.

    it doesn’t fix it.

As I said I have made many websites as a designer over decades so I have a lot of experience.

I have done all that and every single step of troubleshooting I can numerous times over 3 days.

That was the first thing I did, which is why I am here.

    Hi @ukheather

    Thanks for trying again.

I see that your site is using both Wordfence and Cloudflare. While both can work with Jetpack, they can also be configured in a way that prevents Jetpack from working properly.

Could you try temporarily disabling those to see if you can connect to Facebook when they are disabled?

    Thread Starter Heather

    (@ukheather)

I have tried that and it didn’t help at all.
Using wordfence and jetpack both together for years too.

As I said in my first post. I disabled all plugins already. I tried everything I can as someone with over 20 years experience with wordpress and web developing too,

Same as cloudflare. used it for years fine with all the other plugins. Plus it is impossible that it would hide just 1 fb page. That makes no sense surely?
Anyway it isn’t cloudflare either as I turned it off and tested everything I can already.

This broke when facebook API went down the other week.
It was fine until then. THAT must has something to do with it.

Also as I said, it shows all other fb pages so I can’t see that wordfence could have even anything to do with it as it is just 1 page not showing up. It isn’t that anyway.
All other pages show up, just not the one that was connected for 3 years with no issues until fb api on publicize went down the other week.
That broke it. Nothing else. The others do still show.

No plugin nor cloudflare is causing conflict. I already tested weeks ago.

    Hi @ukheather

This broke when facebook API went down the other week.
It was fine until then. THAT must has something to do with it.

I would tend to agree with this. In our back-end we’re seeing the following error when Publicize attempted to post to the Facebook page:

Error 400 (Cannot call API for app [your app id} on behalf of user [your user id])

Had anything changed with the Facebook page? Does it have any restrictions? (Age, location, etc)

When I ran the post through the FB sharing debugger:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

I also saw this error message: The following required properties are missing: fb:app_id

You may need to recreate your Facebook App for the page, or contact Facebook for help with the API problems.

    Thread Starter Heather

    (@ukheather)

Tend to agree? I am telling you this as a fact!

Nothing changed with my page or site.

The facebook debugger used to work fine up to this point that the api went down.
I know as I use it all the time.

I don’t get what you mean here
“You may need to recreate your Facebook App for the page, or contact Facebook for help with the API problems”

    What are you meaning?

I am not using a facebook app for the page… I am JUST using Jetpack

There is nothing I can do to make it work and I don’t understand what you are saying.

I am using publicise to post to facebook and twitter. Not a facebook app that is why I don’t understand what you are saying.

I used jetpack for years with no issues. Over 3 years to be accurate on this site alone and on tons of other sites that I still use.

I already tried to contact facebook but they don’t reply to people. Ever.
Plus it isn’t the facebook API I am having issues with. It is jetpack.

    My page is fine otherwise.

My other sites show up on the list of pages. Just not this 1. That is the issue.

Not sure if you have ever tried to contact Facebook but they never reply plus if they even did, they would just say to contact jetpack. But I have tried and they don’t reply. Plus it isn’t their api that is a problem. It is jetpack.

Plus if you look at the dev fb site, the public don’t have access to support via the dev site. Only devs do… Because we are supposed to report to jetpack, not fb.

    Hi @ukheather

Can you please try to reset your Publicize connection to Facebook and see if that fixes the problem? Here’s how:

    https://jetpack.com/support/publicize/facebook/#reconnecting-facebook

NOTE: Please make sure you follow the instructions to delete the app association on Facebook. This is *required* to fully disable the existing application token prior to reconnecting.

    Thread Starter Heather

    (@ukheather)

That didn’t fix it. I have already done that as I mentioned in the very first post.
I did everything possible already as I stated.
That was literally one of the first things I tried and it didn’t work. Even removing it fully as per the guide.

    Can someone help?

This has been going on ages now!

I have done everything my end but nothing fixes it.

I can’t speak to anyone at facebook about it as it isn’t my app and they say to contact jetpack.

This is not all pages, just one that was connected for 3 years with no issues.
All the others show up just not this one.
Nothing changed at all. Only thing that happened was jetpack facebook connection was broken for a week and in that time I tried to disconnect and reconnect without success. After you fixed the fb issue, I could no longer see that page that was connected.

I am chronically ill & disabled so often in bed recovering so I reply as soon as I can but please read the first post as I am often asked things I have already said I have done and end up saying the same things.

I have done everything I can. disconnect, reconnect, remove permissions fully on fb etc. Nothing works. Nothing.

I have read all guides on jetpack and followed them and nothing works so I am reaching out after trying everything possible my end.

Followed the guides and used my 20 years experience working with wordpress and websites in general and nothing fixes it.

    Hi @ukheather

This is a very difficult problem to track down.

Looking at your site, I see that you are using Rank Math for your Open Graph tags. It is possible that this may be interfering and we can only help to troubleshoot when you are using Jetpack’s Open Graph tags.

Although you mention doing it already, as a next step here, I would suggest temporarily disabling all plugins other than Jetpack and seeing if you can reconnect your page. We can then check our logs and see if anything has changed.

If that doesn’t work, please temporarily try disabling Cloudflare. This was mentioned above, but please confirm you did that and it did not make a difference.

If disabling plugins and Cloudflare doesn’t work, please then try switching to a default theme (such as Twenty Twenty One) and try reconnecting.

Again, we can check our logs to see if we see anything pop up.

Let us know what happens when you try this again and we can go from there.

One more thing @ukheather. If you could share a screenshot of any errors you see when trying to connect, that would help us troubleshoot.

You can send a screenshot using these instructions.

    Thread Starter Heather

    (@ukheather)

As I said I have done all troubleshooting.
I have disabled plugins and that doesn’t fix it.
I was using rank math for as many years as I have been using jetpack.

Turned off cloudflare too but that doesn’t work.

As I said I can see other pages so it isn’t a plugin interfering or I wouldn’t see any pages, but I have disabled them all and tested many times and it isn’t them or cloudflare.

    I have done all troubleshooting.
Disabled plugins, cloudflare, reset permissions on fb, changed themes etc. Literally everything as someone with 20+ years experience.

This isn’t something blocking it as other pages show.
I am sure this is a jetpack end issue as I can’t see another reason.

Apologies I thought I had uploaded photos. My bad.

Here you can see it is missing (scrolled up and down)
    https://ibb.co/cCNrw2B

Then here if I go into edit details of the connection you can see it IS connected but jetpack doesn’t see it?

    Hello, there.

I know you’ve said that nothing has changed about the Chronic Heather Facebook page hasn’t changed, but can you double check to see if it is a part of the Facebook Business Manager or uses Facebook’s “new page experience” mentioned here?

    https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2752670058165459?id=418112142508425

Aside from checking and making sure the page is not one of those, following Michelle’s exact steps, one after the other, is usually how folks get a fresh, brand-new connection between Jetpack and their Facebook page. I’m not sure why those steps aren’t working for you at this point.

    Thread Starter Heather

    (@ukheather)

It was on the old experience.
I tried changing to the new to see if that made it work but it didn’t so rolled it back to the old view when doing troubleshooting.

Nothing had changed. Just the FB Jetpack connection issue which really did break this big style. That is the thing that broke it. When the connection wasn’t working for a while (as per my first post).

That is what seemed to mess it up and now no matter what I do I can’t get it to connect.

I still can’t get this to work.

Done everything I can my end.

    Absolute nightmare.

I am chronically ill and disabled and typing is hard so it takes me a while to come back and reply due to that, but I have done everything I can my end 100 plus times and nothing I can do works.
