• Hi,

I was going to post a link on Facebook to my site and the automatically generated link text is pulling in a description of the theme, rather than of the site. Below is what is being pulled in as the link description, the link title is correct.

“Bento is a premium-grade free WP theme with tons of options and versatile layouts. It’s built for good user experience, speed, and SEO.”

Could you advise where in the Dashboard/settings I can amend this to my own description? I’ve had a look and can’t for the life of me find where it may be.

    Many thanks.

    Hey Keriz,

for some reason FB pulls the description from the theme’s stylesheet instead of the page meta description tag; I can’t seem to be able to reproduce this on a test website for now, but I’ll keep trying. What you can do is use a specialized plugin such as Facebook Open Graph to directly set the og:description tag for the Open Graph data.

Thank you for the reply. As I had Yoast SEO installed I thought I;d try that to overide the description. That didn’t work. So I installed Facebook Open Graph but it also didn’t work. Having cleared my cache and tried on various browsers Facebook is still pulling in a description from the theme, but also now an older version of the site name. Any help greatly appreciated. Even if it comes down to manually editing the description and theme somewhere in the Stylesheet?

    Thanks,

    Keriz

    Hey Keriz,

the FB description works fine at the moment, please try this tool and click on “Scrape again” to clear the graph cache.
