For example one of my pages has 139 likes and 28 shares… SumoMe only shows the 28 shares in the Facebook button, Not the likes…

This makes it look like the post is a lot less popular then it actually is.

The total share count is still right though, and DOES include the Facebook likes.

But I would really like to see this fixed, right now I just turned off the share numbers because I don’t like to look at broken stuff, and my users will get the wrong impression also when it comes to the Facebook count.

    Please fix, thanks.

    Otherwise an awesome plugin.

This is the only reason why I’m considering to use Mashare instead. I like SumoMe more since it has the share number per network showing in the buttons, but if the number is not accurate…

    Hey JanPaul999

    https://www.sharedcount.com/

We pull our numbers directly from Social Networks so they are accurate. You can check accuracy on sharedcount.

For now, if you want to display Facebook Likes on your share bar add the Thumbs Up in Share. It’s a separate count.

Ah ok I understand now how it works. Would be nice if I could choose to add up the likes to the FB share button count though.

    Hey janPaul999,

It was a big discussion, and we decided as long as Facebook separates the data, so will we. The TOTAL count of shares does include all social networks though so we think that’s the compromise.

    thanks for the feedback!

I don’t agree with this decision, Facebook seperates the data only behind the scenes -> on their like button they show the total count of both shares and likes. So in theory, yes they separate the data when you check as a developer… But in practice for everyday users, people are used to seeing likes and shares being added up to a total which is displayed in the default FB like button.

    Hey janPaul999,

Sorry you don’t agree with this decision, Likes aren’t Shares, that’s how we see it. We have very little demand to make, which may seem little, but is a very big change to our Share App.

Maybe in time more people will feel the way you do and bring it to our attention.

    Thanks for the feedback!

no worries, just wanted to add my contribution to “the big discussion” ??

    Thread Starter JanPaul999

    Straight from Facebook:

“What makes up the number shown next to my Like button?

The number shown is the sum of:

The number of likes of your URL
The number of shares of your URL (this includes copy/pasting a link back to Facebook)
The number of likes and comments on stories on Facebook about your URL”

    Source: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button#faqlayouturce

So you guys separating this number is against they way this normally works, and against what people are used to seeing…

If a page has 200 likes and 20 shares I want the button to show 220, not 20. If it shows 20 then it gives the impression that the page isn’t very popular, AKA Negative Social Proof.

That’s the issue with the it’s handled currently… it’s Negative Social Proof by understating the actual numbers that people are used to seeing (a combo of all the likes and shares).

My only solution to that is to turn specific network numbers off, works, but not preferred.

Hi, I have a similar issue.

The total share count DOES NOT include the Facebook likes.

    How can I fix this?

Funny that SumoMe thinks they should follow Facebook strategy and not combining counters. The FB counters/share buttons are tools but not a marketing platform by itself, I guess so is SumoMe then and if you’ve been looking for one, keep looking.

AddThis, Shareholic, Mashare they all think different, for they understand the value of a higher counter on page is better for branding rather than blindly following a social network guideline. To bad I found this out after spending all the time to implement SumoMe on my site.

Although the Like button doesn’t work the way FB intended it to work, it opens a modal instead of +1 in-place, so it’s useless UX-wise. Why wouldn’t SumoMe start following the FB logics from there?

A smart company would keep following FB guideline AND develop a combined counter.

Now I have to roll back all my changes only due to the fact that SumoMe team made a wrong decision at some point. And of course there goes a negative feedback to the plugin too for my time wasted.
