Facebook likes and shares are the same value

  • Looking at one of the news posts, the Facebook “likes” and “shares” are all coincidentally the same value. I have “Show Share Counts” active. Why can the plugin not tell the difference between the two?

    It’s because Facebook tracks the shares, likes and recommends same way. You can confirm this by checking the Facebook shares of a webpage using following API https://graph.facebook.com/?id=https://yourwebsite.com
    Just replace the https://yourwebsite.com in above url with the link of desired webpage. You will find that facebook shares returned by above API and number of Facebook likes shown by the Facebook like button are the same.
    It’s how Facebook does it. We can’t do anything about it.
