The Facebook feed on elgsethytta.com shows the old description

Se hjemmesiden v?r om mer info om midlertidige ?pningstider i overgangsperioden. ?pningstider fra og med 30 januar 2013

under the blue title Elgsethytta even though this description text was updated one week ago on the Facebook page.

Strange thing is that the same old description text is shown on Feed them social demo page.

To me, this seems to be a problem with the plugin loking at an old description text in Facebook and not the new one.

Anyone who knows about this problem and how to solve it?

    Hey @clavans,
Thanks for contacting us. I would be glad to help out, can you please include these 2 things?

1.) The shortcode you are trying to use.

2.) The report from the System Info page of our plugin. Click here if you are unsure how to do this. https://www.slickremix.com/docs/system-info-page/

If you feel more comfortable doing so email us this info at [email protected] which will open up a ticket in our system.

    Thanks,

    Hey @clavans,
Sorry for the troubles. Try setting the Facebook App token on the Facebook Options page under the Feed Them Tab in your WordPress install. Let me know if this helps ??

    Thanks,

I was not able to set the Facebook App token.

But why also your Feed them social demo page shows the old description and not the new one?

To me it looks like this is a problem with the Feed Them Social WordPress plugin since the wrong description is taken out of the Facebook page.

The old description was “Se hjemmesiden v?r om mer info om midlertidige ?pningstider i overgangsperioden. ?pningstider fra og med 30 januar 2013”.

The new description at Elgsethytta Facebook page is since more than one week “?pningstider p?sken 2018
fra og med l?rdag24/4 til og med mandag 2/4 ?pent alle dager fra kl 10-16 velkommen??”

    Hey @clavans,
There are some strange things happening right now with the Facebook API’s because of the Privacy stuff they are going through. Can you please try to setting app token again and see if it works. Sorry for the trouble and inconvenience this may be causing you! We are trying to figure out at this time exactly how it’s affecting our users.

Also you may try just going in and re-saving the description and see if that helps maybe Facebook’s API didn’t pick up the change. I went and cleared the cache on our FTS demo site you sent us just to be sure and it was still the old one.

    Thanks,

    Hello

Do you have an app token I can try with?

I have asked the owner of the Facebook page to update the text and save it again to see if that helps.

    Thanks

    (@slickremix)

We cannot provide APP tokens as those are like passwords and should be kept private. You can however create your own APP ID by creating one using these instructions. https://www.slickremix.com/docs/create-facebook-app-id-or-user-token/

You said, “I was not able to set the Facebook App token.”…

Why were you unable to create the app token?

    Hello again

The description text on the Facebook Group is now updated to a new text, but still the same old description is shown.

Following the instructions at your link:

“Then go to this link. https://developers.facebook.com/ and click the menu item, ‘My Apps‘ then click on Add a New App.”

I can not find the menu item ‘My Apps‘. Has Facebook changed their page after your description was made?

Are you logged into facebook with your fb account? If so you should see a link in the upper far right hand corner… maybe it says, Add New App, if you have not created one before. Not positive but everything else appears to follow our instructions from my research so far.

On another note I just tried to update our description too and it’s not updating proper on our feed either. I’m going to do some debugging on our end and let you know what I find. Thanks for your patience so far ??

Ah ok so I figured something out here. FYI that is a facebook business page, and not a group you are referring to in this link. https://www.facebook.com/Elgsethytta-194446683978646/

I noticed that there are 2 places now it appears facebook allows you to add about info… The original place for the about info is under the MORE INFO section.. as seen on our page here https://www.facebook.com/pg/SlickRemix/about
The other place is the Story area of the About page…. It looks like when Facebook added the Story area they simply copied the same info from the About area and added it to the Story by default….No clue why they thought that was the best method.

So the API is not giving us any place to pull the “Story,” area of the about page… I can see on the page you mentioned that the About Info is not under the MORE INFO section anymore on the about page. Under the About page, if you are logged in, you should see a link that says “Edit About”, that is where you would want to copy the current “Story” text too. I tried this on our account and it worked.

    Thank you

I have instructed the owner of the Facebook page to try to update the MORE INFO section instead of the STORY section and we’ll see if that works.

    Hello,

I have the same problem. I’ve tried everything suggested in this string but the feed just stubbornly grabs the old description from some mysterious cache. The old description has not existed in the about section or story section in Facebook for two months.

    Thank you,

@egokills fb still is not giving us a place to change this unfortunately. The best advice I can offer is to hide the fb name and description and manually add those yourself for the time being.

Add the CSS below the photo to the Custom CSS Box on the Settings page of our plugin. Make sure and check the box to turn the option on (see example photo below). You may need to empty the cache or empty your browser cache if you are not seeing the changes.

    https://www.slickremix.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Screen-Shot-2017-02-25-at-9-49-53-AM.png

    .fts-jal-fb-header{display:none !important}

Thank you so much! This will do very well for the time being.

Adding the CSS helped and took away both the fb name and the old description, but that is much better than how it was. Thanks for the help.

In order to avoid adding CSS code, may I suggest that in a future update of this plugin hiding of the fb name and the description could rather be implemented as an setting option under Global Facebook Style Options?
