We have been using the Feed Them Social plugin to display our Facebook feed on the home page of our website for several years. However, in the past few months, our Facebook feed is no longer automatically updating. If I manually click the “Clear Cache” button in the Feed Them Social plugin settings, it works fine. However, when I go back the next day, the feed is no longer updated. It seems like the cache isn’t automatically refreshing itself. As far as I can tell, we don’t have any other cache plugins operating on the site. I also disabled the caching control on our Bluehost hosting settings, since I thought that might be the culprit.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

  • There are a few reasons that the feed may not be updating. Some of those reasons could be:

    1. The cache needs to be cleared
    2. You would need a new access token from Facebook.
      1. Meta (Facebook/Instagram) has added new permissions, so you’ll need to get a new access token and create a new FTS feed.

There could be more but since this deals more with the plugin and not the hosting itself, the best option would be to contact the plugin developer to see if there are any known issues with the plugin.

@jbuch209 thanks for contacting us. Can you please go to the feed edit page in question and click the blue support beacon in the bottom right corner, and fill out the details there? That will give me your options and system info to debug the issue further. Thank you!

I am also seeing this issue – I am testing if i clear the cache and then hit the save button if that makes it work. I have FTSocial on 5 websites for the FB feed.m Some are working, some are not….

I have sent the same message above using the blue “Support” button from the feed edit.

It appears that the feed looks fine until a new post is made on Facebook. Then the feed loses its photos and won’t update with the new post, until the “Clear Cache” button is manually pressed. I will not clear the cache at this time so that you can see what it looks like. https://greencircletrail.org/

    Thank you!

I’ve noticed that Facebook has put what appears to be a 12 hour expiration time on photos. Try going to the Settings page of our plugin and choose 1 Hour for the cache time. Then save the settings and afterwords click the clear cache button. Let me know if that helps.

I already have the 1-hour cache time set in the settings. If I manually click the “clear cache” button, the feed works fine for a while. But when a new post is made on our Facebook page, you see the results that are currently shown on our home page. It seems like the cache is not being cleared automatically, like it should.

Thanks for submitting the additional info @jbuch209. It does appear you retrieved that access token over 8 months ago and a few permission from Facebook have changed since then. Try creating a new feed and getting a new Access Token. Then place the new shortcode in place of your old one you have on the front end of your website. Lets try that and see if it fixes the problem.

Let me know how it goes, and thank you for your patience. We recently just survived Hurricane Milton here in Bradenton, FL so it’s been a bit hectic to say the least.

Thank you for your assistance. I have created a new feed and inserted it into the home page. I then manually cleared the cache. I will watch to see if this fixes the issue!

I created a new feed with a new access token. Unfortunately, the same thing is happening when a new post is made on Facebook. You can see the results on our home page…. https://greencircletrail.org/. I haven’t manually cleared the cache yet, which always temporarily fixes the issue.

This issue should be resolved in version 4.3.4. After updating, make sure and empty the Cache from the Settings page of our plugin. That will set a cron job to ensure the cache gets emptied based on the Cache Time you set on the Settings page.

You can double-check that this is working by visiting the System Info page in the plugin and looking for the area that says Cron Job Status. Let me know how it goes.

If you run into any trouble, please go to the Feed Edit page in question and use the blue support beacon in the lower right-hand corner. Thank you, and have a great weekend!
