Facebook count not working

Thank you for reaching out with this message. I have just manually checked the social share counts for Facebook for the link you’ve provided, using the SharedCount tool (https://www.sharedcount.com/), and it seems Facebook returns zero.

I’m not entirely sure how you’ve shared the link on Facebook, but please note that shares will be counted for a link only if the link is shared directly. If you’ve added it, for example, in the caption of an image, all the shares and engagement will be saved for the image, not for the link.

If you could leave me a couple Facebook links with the shared post I could check it out and see if something might be missing.

Thank you for sharing the links and the extra details. Indeed, Facebook returns share counts for the two links.

I’d recommend firstly updating Social Pug to the latest version and then following option 1 from this documentation article: https://docs.devpups.com/social-pug/activate-facebook-share-counts/

If you’ve already done this, I’d recommend opening a support ticket on support[at]devpups[dot]com, as I may need extra sensitive information.

hello sir facebook counts and twitter counts are remains same although they are shared and twitted also total counts remains 0.
I need right solution for this.

Hi,

I’ve always used Social Pug, but now this has stopped counting Facebook shares (I’m aware of Twitter not supporting it). I do have Facebook app approved in the Social Pug settings and not expiring soon. But still. The count is not working!

E.g. This post shows 1K shares on my site: https://mundotinnitus.com/oto-313-cura-tinnitus/
But it should be 1.3K (https://www.sharedcount.com/).

The same with all my other posts. Really annoying! Can you please advise what to do. If I can fix it, I will sadly have to change social share plugin ??

I have recently discovered the bug for Facebook’s social share counts recently, while debugging the same issue for @ourtasteforlife.

The fix will be available in the next update. I hope to have it up sometime next week.

Thanks for your prompt reply, it’s really appreciated.

Can you please give an exact ETA for the update? This a major issue for us publishers. For better or for worse, the number of shares gives our readers the feel of the post/site. In this context, shares=worthiness. And since this bug started (over THREE months ago, in June) all my new posts show as ZERO shares, which is really bad.

In particular, a major newspaper is going to share one of our articles next Tuesday and we expect thousands of shares from this referral (the article they are going to share is currently showing a poor 1 share). I am sure you understand the need for us to count on a reliable plugin to acknowledge all those shares.

Can you please get back to us on the two paramount questions below?:

1- Will the update be released by next Tuesday 24/09/19?
2- Will it recover all the lost Facebook shares ever since June?

Unfortunately, too few people reached out with this particular issue on the free version of the plugin, the one affected, and I was only able to track down the bug this week thanks to @ourtasteforlife.

To answer your questions though:
1. I’m going to try a release as soon as possible. I’m looking for Monday next week, as I don’t wish to push any updates before the weekend. Safety first.
2. Yes, already published posts will see share counts.

But, to help you out sooner, given your particular urgency, please reach out to support[at]devpups[dot]com and I’ll offer more details there.

Hi, the facebook count doesn’t work for me either. I added and verified my facebook according to the instructions. I then went to refresh the counts of one of my post (there were already 6 fb shares showing), however when I clicked refresh, fb count dropped to 0, and stopped showing counts at all. In the meantime, https://www.sharedcount.com shows 48. Very frustrating…

@iovamihai, any idea of what’s going on? And why I’m experiencing those problems?

The issue is with the current version of the plugin. There’s a bug preventing Facebook share counts from being properly retrieved from Facebook. Tomorrow an update will be released with the fix for this problem. Please keep an eye out for it.

If the update doesn’t resolve the issue, please make sure to let me know.

Just wanted to let you know that the fix is available with the new update, in version 1.6.2. Please let me know if you’re still having issues with the share counts.

Also, please note it may take a few hours, up to 12 for posts older than 20 days, until share counts are being pulled.
