  • Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. I feel your pain. Every time I post a link to one of my WordPress blog postings on Facebook – people simply comment on Facebook instead of at my site – which sucks. It completely defeats the purpose of having a website. All it does is build Facebook. If you’re trying to build a site – you need content like people’s opinions, criticisms, etcetera – but the only site gaining any of that is Facebook.

    Hi Sal,

Man, I really appreciate your response. Kind of leaves me scratching my head a bit, I thought this plugin was supposed to bring facebook comments over to WordPress.

Do you know of a good plugin that would help me achieve this?

    Thanks again!

    Ted

    Hi Ted,

You and I were both under the same impression but this app does something different. I think we’re both actually looking for something like this:

Man, you are very cool, Sal! I’ll check this out.

    Thanks again, man!

Thanks! Let me know what you think. ??

    Hey Sal,

Thanks again for the tip. I did check out the plugin, which seemed to be more geared only for ‘Pages’ or ‘Groups’ where my client needs one for their profile. I saw the developer does make one for profiles and tried that but couldn’t get it to work – would just show that I had ) Comments on the test post I was trying (when there actually does have comments)

I’m starting to think it might be an issue with the way I set the Facebook App up. It’s got the URLs and email address and I’ve made sure it was Live, but since every comment plugin I’ve tried is giving me the same results (0 Comments) I’m thinking the issue might actually be with the App.

Anyway, I’ll keep testing things but just wanted to say thanks again, Sal, I appreciate it!

Ted. I’d been doing some reading last night and it was my assumption that profile discussions worked ALONG with Pages and Groups. I have a strong feeling it’s just something in your settings as I also heard the settings are a bit complicated. I’m confident that “support” will be able to get you situated. Please let me/us know how it turns out as I’m sure a lot of people are looking for the specific functionality that this app provides…

    Thank you!

    Hi Ted, Hi Sal;

This is what you want: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/public_feed

Unfortunately, as it says in the document page: “Access to the Public Feed API is restricted to a limited set of media publishers and usage requires prior approval by Facebook. You cannot apply to use the API at this time.”

To clarify, I would like to say that neither my plugin or any plugin can fetch the comments of link shared on the Facebook. Currently all we can do is seeing how many times a link is shared on Facebook. I hope Facebook will open the use of this wonderful API to the world.

    Regards,
    Burak.

    Hey Burak,

Thanks very much for the information – man, it was pretty wild that every plugin I tried didn’t work!

Thanks again for the heads-up! And thanks again to you Sal! Have a great weekend!

    Ted

    Hi Burak,

Thank you. So that plugin I posted only works for Facebook Pages and Groups. Correct? If so, does yours do the same as well? Or are you saying that neither plugin can pull comments from Facebook at all?

    Sal C.

Okay, just a quick FYI. I just installed the plugin and I imported a post from my personal Facebook page/wall. It does work…
