I used to have a pretty smooth e-commerce website that was very popular and was doing well $ wise. I then made the decision to transition to Managed WordPress (Godaddy) from just a normal hosting plan on Godaddy and everything has gone downhill since then. The website takes about 5-8 seconds to load most days, which has resulted in a huge dip in number of visitors to the website and subsequent revenue. I have tried to resolve this myself but increasing cache allotment and clearing the cache. I’ve also tried to work with Godaddy but they tell me its my web dev who needs to figure this out as this outside their scope of expertise, though when I opted for “Managed” WordPress I thought I would be getting help from Godaddy for such issues. Anyway, anybody with similar experiences ? And what options do I have ? I have SSL enabled (UCCL) on this domain and 3 subdomains and am thinking about migrating considering renewal is up but I would like to make an informed decision. Thanks for any help.

  • WordPress is a beauty, the problem is from our ends. Probably you are having slow speed because:

    1) Using lots of plugins.
    2) Not optimized your images/
    3) Over use of the JavaScript
    4) Not using caching plugins.
    5) Godaddy is a huge organization, and this huge is making huge problem for the clients as far as the quality is concern.

    thanks

GoDaddy is very slow for WordPress all of the sudden. I am not sure if it has anything to do with recent WordPress updates or not.

I have several sites hosted with them and several hosted with WebSynthesis.com. While both seemed to take a hit with the latest update of WordPress. WebSynthesis still performs well. GoDaddy is almost impossible to use now.

I recently switched over from regular WordPress through Godaddy to their managed WordPress product. The idea was to benefit from SSD technology and faster performance.

So far my PageSpeedInsight scores have taken a huge hit! Down from around 90 on mobile and 87 on desktop, to 71 mobile and 78 desktop with the managed service.

When I called in to inquire about it, I was told to check with my ISP! I told them this is an online test of the site. That my ISP has nothing to do with it!

Glad to see that others are having problems with them as well, including since the latest WP upgrade.

Something is very wrong here. GD seem to be handing off their managed WP sites to a third party and I believe this is slowing down site performance.

Seriously thinking of calling it a day with them over this one if this goes on for much longer.

Any insights anybody? Feeling frustrated about this. I was doing a lot better it seemed picking my own plugins for caching and going it myself!

Hi Zenron. I work at GoDaddy. What’s your URL? Would be happy to take a look from this side and see if something looks amiss.

    Hello CCarfi,

    My url is: https://www.ronlafleurcounsellingservices.com

If you take a look at my site on Webpagetest which is endorsed by GodDaddy, you will see all kinds of server side issues coming up.

As of last night, I am also noticing that I am having a problem uploading images to my blog post. I am getting a fatal error.

Still feeling very frustrated by the managed hosting.

Anything you could do to smooth out server side errors and now image uploading problems would be greatly appreciated!

I have to say, before Manage WP, I was using the plugin Fastest Cache and didn’t have hardly any of these server side cache problems. Wondering what kind of cache you are using?

I thought it was just me. I switched from Go Daddy self hosting to Go Daddy Word press Managed Hosting and my site is MUCH slower. I went from 2.20s load time in June 2015 to 5.64s load time October 2015. I have no new plugins just the Word press update and a theme update. I feel so discouraged about my website now, it’s in maintenance mode until this can be fixed. Go Daddy really needs to fix this!!!!

This slowness, issue has nothing to do with the WordPress core.

Please contact Godaddy support for resolution of this issue.

As an endnote to my situation. I finally decided to change hosting companies. I was really getting a run around from Go Daddy. After a lot of research, I chose another hosting company that actually has “true” SSD servers. From the very beginning my site behavior and page speeds were significantly faster, in the mid to high 90’s.

No more running around, and no more concerns about web hosting affecting my rankings. The rest is now up to me.

No more Go Daddy runaround. It’s one thing to have snazzy ads. It’s entirely another thing to have solid, fast performance with great support. Lesson learned.

Good luck to all out there

    Glad to know it ??

Zenron, thanks for this update. Do you mind telling us which service you switched to?

I am going through the same thing… my Go Daddy speeds used to be blazing and now they are very slow….

I have asked my coder to look at compression etc but it seems like the managed wordpress hosting has slowed down a great deal since it was first rolled out.

    Zenron, Goldengate,
I tooo am having The same issues with GD…..
I do business and ecom consulting.
Also Built many of my own WP Ecom sites with child themes that i designed.
I know all the tricks and GD is the problem… I migrated 20 sites from Ipage to Godaddy…. Now Slow Slow Slow UGGGGGGGG!!!! Please Let us know Who the hosting company “is” that actually has “true” SSD servers. I am loosing sales due to slowness…
    Thanks
