    Hello,
since a few weeks we have massive problems with loading times. Before everything went smoothly.
The web shop is extremely slow at certain times and in some places images do not load/display correctly, until you refresh the page.
Initially, I ran the preload in Cache menu. That took several days…
I activated compress images and let it convert to WebP.
    Minimization is enabled.
Page caching is enabled and has a lifespan of 14 days. Still, it looks to me like the cache is being cleared every 24 hours…
WordPress display site state says that the presence of a page cache cannot be detected…

Please let me know how we can fix this problem.

    Kind regards,
    Johannes

    Hello vupdraft,
    I have deactivated minifiction. yesterday.
Today I have again tryed with activated WebP. Now the page-speed looks much better to me! WebP stays activated now.
Only problem is now at our home site, the pics of slider are not shown any more…

    Kind regards,
    Johannes

Having viewed your source code, something is lazy loading .

Are you using the free or pro version of smart slider3?

    Hello,
We use the free version of Smart Slider.
In my opinion we also have a problem with images in the Smart Slider. Looks like there were compression issues… I’ll try rebuilding the entire slide (with newly uploaded images). Hope this helps straight away.
Because of increasing loading times, I deactivated WebP again.

    I will keep you updated!

    Hello,
My suspicion that the problem came from the pictures was confirmed. Please take a look at the messages from the log for the image uploads (no new images have been uploaded for days, but there are currently a lot of errors all the time…)

What do you think? Any idea to fix that?

    Kind regards,
    Johannes

Apologies for the delay, is this your smush log?

    Hello,
the screen came from the image compression log.

I searched, deleted and re-uploaded every image from this log.
No further errors are now displayed.
Unfortunately, this didn’t change our problem with WebP.
After activation, the loading time is many times higher than without it.
In the next step I want to look at images in our slider.
Please keep me updated if you find a reason for the WebP problem.

    Kind regards,
    Johannes

In the v3.2.17 update, there were some refactorings in the WebP serving method. As a result, more users are getting their WebP served by the Apache .htaccess redirect method (previously, these were served by the AlterHTML method). For most users, this change should improve things because the Apache .htaccess redirect method is faster, and modern Apache servers are very performant.

However, if your site has a lot of traffic or has slow hosting, the increased traffic could lead to more JPG to WebP redirects when WebP is enabled, thus making the servers slower.

We’re considering introducing a hook in the future so that users will be able to change the WebP serving method.
