  • Hi @faf-amy,

    Thanks for posting on the forum.

    Are you bulk sumshing the images? How many images are you smushing at a time?

    Could you please tell me what value you have set for the WP Smush.it option “How many seconds should we wait for a response from Smush.it?” on the following path?

    Admin Area -> Settings -> Media -> WP Smush.it

    Are you facing this issue currently? Was it working fine for you?

    The WP Smush.it plugin only provides interface in the WordPress to the smush.it service provided by Yahoo. It optimizes images by calling Smush.it APIs so the functionality of it depends on the features provided by Yahoo Smush.It service and may get slow if the Yahoo Smush.It service gets slow.

    The number of images that we’ve attempted to smush at one time varies – we’ve attempted to run all of them through and we’ve also attempted to do a page at a time in the media library.

    The setting for the number of seconds to wait for a response from Smush.it – we have that set to 60.

    Hi @faf-amy,

    Thank you for your reply.

    As said if Yahoo have any service issues on their side this will also affect your site in how it smushes, this could be a cause of some slowness.

    Please answer all of my questions so that we can get to the bottom of this faster.

    Was it working fine for you?

    If you are still facing the issue then could you please try smushing one image and let me know how much time it is taking to smush that image along with the image size.

    Is your site or any other functionality on it also facing any slowness?

    We’ve always had some issue with it. We’ve never been able to use the Bulk Smush.it option successfully.

    To smush an individual image takes about 13 seconds.

    Otherwise our site is running fine.

    Hi @faf-amy,

    It’s working fine on my test site.

    Do you have any other WordPress site or can you create another test WordPress site having WP Smush.it plugin installed to test whether this is server issue or your WordPress install specific issue?

    I will test it on another site.

    Hi @faf-amy,

    Hope this is all going well for you! I just wanted to mention, it’s possible to test using a local install, maybe using AMPPS: https://www.ampps.com/

    Looking forward to ensuring this is all sorted for ya! ??

    Cheers, David

    I’m facing the same issue. Impossibly slow smushing. I’ve tested by disabling the plugin, and image uploads are normal. With the plugin enabled, for example, a 26kb image took 1.36mins to process. That was with the “How many seconds should we wait for a response from Smush.it?” set to 60. Changing that value lower made no positive difference. My php.ini is set to:

    max_execution_time = 300
    max_input_time = 300

    Hi @immanence,

    I hope you are well today.

    As mentioned in my following previously posted reply that the slowness when smushing images depends on smush.it service provided by Yahoo.

    Could you please try directly smushing images by using the Yahoo smush.it service here : https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/#urls-tab ?

    Try smushing images by pasting image URLs from your site in to above service.

    Hi @wpmu DEV

    I just tried that, and I was able to smush within seconds. So it appears to be something within my site. As I expect it is not WordPress itself, and there should be no reason for the theme to interfere with the Media interface in WordPress, it’s either my server or the plugin, no?

    Hi @immanence,

    The plugin is working fine on my site and also on the sites of other members using it except the members who reported this issue on this thread.

    To check whether this is server issue could you please try using it on the site hosted on another server if you can?

    Regards,
    WPMU DEV
