Extracing Templates

New to WordPress but not computing. Been trying to download a few templates to get started and play around except I can’t extract the downloaded templates without problems. I get sort of all sorts of problems when using Winrar or windows extract. Usually about duplicate files/folder names, that mess. Used to do ISO/BIN extracting with my eyes closed–this is maddening.
