Extra Email Validation

    Hi,
    Is there any PHP function/hook that I can use to implement an extra email validation? Basically I would like to add certain rules that prevent some type of SPAML emails that I’m getting. So, besides checking if an email is valid, I would also want to check if it complies with some extra rules. And I would like to do this from the theme functions.php file so that I can always keep the plugin updated.
    I don’t want to use the CAPTCHA and I already have the double opt-in active.
