    Hi there Jose,

Thank you very much for this great plugin ??

I have already read that SuperPWA app on iOS has some more beta features than in the current version of the plugin, but I was wondering if links opening up on Safari rather than inside the app is also a feature like this or am I doing something wrong?

I like that you can navigate within the app, but when you open some external links inside the pwa, it is not possible to go back to the app (This is not an issue on Android as there is always the back button).

Is there a way to arrange the external links that will open up in a new tab to open in the browser on iOS?

    Cheers

  • Thanks a lot for the kind words. Upon PWA, the external links are handled fully by browser’s (on you case it’s iOS browser – Safari) based on how they are designed to handle it. At this moment we’re not able to change this default behaviour set by the browser’s.

May be in future, iOS will handle external links like how the Android browser’s handle this for better user experience.

Thank you very much Jose ??

Sorry, maybe my question was not clear, I saved SuperPWA.com to my iOS homescreen as a pwa. Any link I click on the SuperPWA’s app will open in a new Safari tab including your blog posts, newsletter, etc.

However when I download my own PWA to homescreen, the external links open up within the pwa app. (Making going back to home page of my pwa app impossible without restarting the app)

In this case, one of these is not the normal behaviour I suppose?

Could you please let me know the iOS version upon your iPhone?

    Hi Jose,

I have been checking it on the latest iOS version (12.1.1 I suppose) on an iPad 9.7 2018.

I’m not sure about the behaviour of PWA over iPad. Upon iPhone 11.3+ and on Safari browser, PWA works like this video.

Thank you, I have redownloaded SuperPWA to my homesreen. Now it works a bit different, I don’t understand what was wrong maybe with my device, but thanks for your time ??

When I asked the question, for example clicking on the “SuperPWA 1.9 is Ready for Chrome Mini-infobar” blog post would open it up on Safari rather than inside the SuperPWA. Now it opens within the app.

External links such as your Twitter account below opens it up on Safari still. So I guess this should be normal behaviour now.

    Thank you ??

Yes, opening external links over Safari browser is an expected behaviour and that’s how iOS support external links at this moment.

And upon Android browsers, external links opens within a minimal UI and with a handy close button. If the Android app of the external links website is present and based on the App Linking it will open the app rather than showing it over it.
