External hyperlink don’t work

I can’t seem to get my hyperlinks to work. I finally figured out how to link internally using the code

However, I can’t get external links to work. For example:
I type in this code Google
and then I get a 404 message and this is what appears in the address bar: https://thestepfordchild.com/go.php?https://google.com

It is as though it will not clear the address before trying to do an external hyperlink.

Any help? I’ve looked through the settings, but can’t figure it out.

I am using a WordPress template that someone else designed. It is HoPE.
