• Hi,

I would like to add download-files from an external server instead of the Media Library. Is that also possible?

    Kind Regards,

    Jeffrey

    Hello,

thank you very much for your request. Unfortunately, what you want is not possible with this plugin (currently). In the ToDo list is at least still the possibility that you can select a directory on the own server. However, external servers are not provided here – mainly because this is quite complex since there are many ways to access servers.

One idea: you would need a plugin that automatically imports the data from the external server (whichever it is) into your media library. Then you could also select the files with this plugin. I don’t know of such a plugin, but it depends on how you want to access the external server.

    Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply. Adding the files via a plugin from the external server to my media library isn’t what I’m looking for, because the files are too big and I don’t want to slow down my website. I was hoping for a solution like when you’re adding images, where you can select “Upload”, “Media Library” or “Add through URL”, like so: https://im.ge/i/1qvAr0.

Understand the concern better now. Large files are a good argument.

However, it somewhat contradicts the intent of this plugin. The block outputs a title, a description text, the file size and an icon for each file. With an externally located file, none of this is available within WordPress with which the plugin could then work. Yes, you could e.g. enter the title manually – but then you don’t need the plugin, because you can simply enter it with a list block (enter title & link title with URL + additional file info).

On the ToDo list for the plugin is still the assignment of individual file titles within the list. Maybe I can think of something in the context of this implementation to fulfill your wish as well. But I don’t see such an addition in time.
