    Hi

When I set up a recurring event in Events Made Easy, it asks for an end date and creates individual events up to that end date. I am setting up events for an association with 80+ groups, all of which have meetings on a weekly or monthly basis. That means that, at some point, I will need to go through every group and change the start and end dates of the recurring meetings.

To make maintenance easier is there any way to automatically extend recurring meetings by x instances?

If not, is there some way to set a reminder when a recurrence is coming to an end?

    Thanks

    Ian

I’m not really sure what you ask here, but you can edit a recurrence and just change the end date, which will just add more events …

    Hi Franky

Yes I know I can do that but I would have to do it individually for more than 80 recurring events.

What I am interested in is a function which would extend the end date of all selected recurring events by a specified value, for example 6 months. This could potentially be implemented as a bulk action.

    Thanks

I understand the request now. I like it and will implement something like that but not “extending 6 months” or so (because that would become a problem with people wanting days/weeks/… ) but by being able to select a new (bigger) end date for the recurrences.

That’s great Franky, thanks. Yes, a specific date will work well. I’m happy to beta test that for you if you like.

While we are talking about enhancements, at the moment I am using ctrl-f to find events in the list. You may want to think about a search option in the admin panel. Not a big deal, just a nice to have.

Another one is to allow multiple selections on the recurrence. I have one group who meet every Monday except the first Monday of the month. It would be nice to be able to select 2nd,3rd,4th and last from the drop down list.

I hope you don’t mind me giving some ideas. It’s a great plugin already, these are just thoughts based upon use.

Concerning finding events: just go in the events-section (not the recurrences) and there you can search on event name (and then click on “edit recurrence”).
Multiple selections is a whole other thing … it would require a complete rework on the edit-part and is a nightmare for backwards compatibility. So for now, that’s not going to happen (too much work, not enough gain).

Thanks for the tip Franky. I totally understand about the multiple selections. How about a clone function then, so that recurring events that happen on multiple weeks each month can be copied and edited instead of having to be created from scratch each time?

The dev-version contains the extra change concerning extending recurring event dates.
Concerning cloning: when in the events menu, you can copy an event and then just make it recurring …

Thanks Franky. I’ll check out that dev version. I wish I had known about being able to copy individual events, I must have missed that in the documentation.

    Thanks for your help.

The possibility to copy events has been present since the beginning of the plugin (more than 10 years already). It is a column called “Copy” so should be pretty obvious ??

Yep, I think I have just been focusing too much on the recurrences, where there is no copy. ????

Franky, I know I’m being really stupid but I can’t find where to download the dev version. Can you please give me a link.

    Thanks again

You can download it at the bottom of this page:

    Thanks Franky.

I have downloaded that and replaced the current live version with the dev version. I can see the new bulk action. I have selected a recurring event and chosen a new end date. The action reports that the end date has been extended but the change has not taken effect.

I have tried this using a random date in the future and also the exact day of the week on which the event takes place. The recurrence does not change and there are no additional individual events created.

The dev version doesn’t seem to have broken anything.

Is there anything else you would like me to try with this version?

    Thanks

Make sure to empty your cache (javascript changes …).
I’ll try it here again too (worked fine yesterday)

Right. I didn’t think the cache would make a difference to seeing new individual entries but I will try it.

    Cheers
