Just thought I would ask the community to see if anyone has any idea or experience if a site with version 2.86 will export and import into 3.9? Theoretically.

    thanks

  • Are you talking about a database import or an import via Tools -> Export/Import?

About the Tools->export/Import of the content. The posts and even images if possible etc.

Theoretically, that should work just fine as long as both sites are simultaneously accessible.

Good point on the simultaneously accessible part. I had not considered that. It will be on the same server. If I just wanted to import the posts without attachments, will the exported xml file work on its own if the original site is down? Do you think?

It will be on the same server.

That should be fine as long as the two sites use different urls.

In theory, yes. The xml file should contain the post content. It’s just the images & other attachments that have to be pulled from the old site.

ok. this is what Im gonna do. I will export the content, all of it. Install the new WP site on a local development server and set it up. Then I will delete the old site and move the new site from local to production. Viola!.

    Thanks a bunch esmi!!
