• I have a very old install of WordPress (2.0) running which I would like to export so that I can import it into the latest WordPress.

I do not want to go through the many intermediate updates to upgrade the WordPress software. I want to export the data and then reimport it to the new install in order have a clean install.

I don’t see a way to export from the old WordPress. Is there a plugin that will do this?

You have to do intermediate upgrades of WP to upgrade the database structure because when you update WP core, the database gets updated at the same time. If you don’t do intermediate upgrades, you risk corrupting the database.

Or export the XML file into a brand new barebones 3.1 site, look under Tools>>Export in your WP 2 site.

I don’t want to use the same database so upgrading is not necessary. I just want to export the data into something such as an XML file. Then I will create a completely fresh WP install on a completely fresh web server. I will look in Tools:Export. Thanks. Right now the host is down and has been for over >>20 hours. This is part of the reason I am moving to a new web server with a new host – I’m getting tired of the repeated down time. I figure that while I make this move it is a good time to bring this old blog up to the new WP software.

Okay, my web host is finally backup from their extended crash. I am looking in WP 2.02 Dashboard. I do not see any meny “Tools”. Where should I find it?

Also I checked every single menu, again, for “Export” and do not find that. Where should I find “Export”?

Upgrade WP to get the Export tools.
