Exporting/Importing Post, Pages, etc.

When exporting my site data to an xml file and importing it to another site, the media gets left behind. I have to upload the media via ftp and then manually reattach the media one-by-one to the original posts, pages, custom content.

Is there a way to avoid this?

Backstory: I make sites and use the content for other sites that I make of a similar site type (several biking wordpress blogs and I want to have the same blog posts on both sites). Sometimes, I’m changing the theme of the site and want to start over from scratch but want to reuse my posts, pages, etc.

Reattaching all the images to the imported posts and pages gets laborious when you have more than 20 posts and 15 pages.

Is there any solution to keeping the media files attached to the xml file when importing it to a new website.
