Exporting comments: do they stay in the WP database as well?

I am preparing to activate the Disqus plugin and export comments from my WordPress blog into Disqus. When I do that, though, will the comments still stay in my WordPress database? (Just in case the import doesn’t go smoothly, and I need to temporarily revert back to WP-native commenting capability?)
