    Hey guys,

I’m trying to export a manual for a synthesizer that we wrote using WordPress so that we can include an offline html version on the distribution CD.

I’ve searched for export options but none so far really kept all the links alive.

If you would like to know what I’m talking about:
    https://www.u-he.com/zebra/manual/

    Thanks for the help!

I’ve of course searched the site before and found this also, but since I’m not the Unix crack I would like to be, I would prefer another option. I don’t even know how to “build my own Unix whatever” ?? I’m a music producer trying to prepare a distribution of a synthesizer manual… remember?

I’ve tried the download page with iCal option, tried WebDevil they all break the links and if I am to try said suggestion (wget) I have to be sure that it keeps everything like it was.

Have you tried it and can tell me if the links stay intact?

    Thanks for the help

    Cheers
    Hans

PS: I did try it as I found a binary distribution for Mac OS X however it only downloads the first page and not the whole archive, and that’s as far as my Unix skills go… sorry, I can write melodies instead

My last encounter with the Unix command line was more than 4 years ago, retrieving e-mail from pine. I’ve recently discovered Cygwin which is a Unix emulation layer for Windows. It’s easy to install, has many available packages (including wget, which I just took for a little test drive a moment ago and it works very well). Once you get your feet wet with it, it’s very straight forward. I think a certain evil software empire has us all afraid of the command line (I know I was/still am), but it’s really not that bad.

I imagine something like web whacker, which you have to purchase and even then I’m not sure how good it is, could be an option.

    Good luck,
    Michael.

    Ooops… edited while you posted…

I will look around for more options, however, I think it would be a neat feature of WordPress to have a good output option.

WordPress is sort of predetined to serve as an online writing collaboration tool and it’s only natural that at some point you would want to publish that.

    Thanks
    Hans

There are several options that need to be set in wget, the GNU wget has a great instruction manual.

I agree that an export feature, amongst many others would be nice to have, but as you said, WordPress is an online tool and there are many options for bridging the online-offline gap, like wget. ??

    Good luck,
    Michael.

Thanks Michael for the help, and of course you are right, but my day has limited number of hours available and every now and then I’d rather practice Schubert than reading tech manuals… at least I’m honest about my priorities… ??

But I have now finally found the solution, 25 bucks but that ain’t much!

It’s an app called Blue Crab and it’s from the good people at: https://www.limit-point.com

And yes, I just tried it. The resulting pages have garbled file names but hey, as long as it’s viewable I don’t care.

Again, anyone who needs this on the Mac, that’s your solution!

    Thanks and cheers
    Hans

PS: Now when do we get all those nifty plug-ins that we had for WordPress 1.5 better yet: why did I update….? ??

Honesty is good, I for one, have absolutely no musical talent what-so-ever!

About the plug-ins, I haven’t a clue, I’ve only started using WP with 2.0, but I have already found some plug-ins that are “functionally deficient”. It can’t hurt checking the plug-ins website and maybe asking the author if or when an update might be coming.

Anyway, I’m glad you found a solution that works!! Good luck to you!

    Cheers,
    Michael.

I stumbled upon this one this morning, not only is it easy and does it do a fantastic job, but it’s completely free (GPL)! HTTrack Website Copier.

Nice find niziol! Or is it nice stumble ??

Well, it’s a story of trial and tribulation and PG-14 rated language…

It was another one of those “I’m going to throw a chair through the window” moments, I’d been playing with wget in cygwin, which did everything fine except for getting the CSS (which I later found out was due to the css directory being disallowed by robots.txt, but we won’t get into that again! *serenity now*). So as I was fuming, “wget you piece of crap why can’t you get my fricken style sheet!” and saying to the internet gods “why shalt thou forsake me with a mirror and no style!??. I then finally decided to search for help on Google and I saw a reference to HTTrack in someones log file.

Behold, there it was! Functional, free and even Windows compliant…never again in the face of adversity shall I turn to WebWhacker, finally the internet gods had set me free, for the only website mirroring tool for me, is HTTrack! (sorry, I couldn’t think of anything to rhyme with HTTrack for the happy ending part.)

    Cheers,
    Michael.
