Export from WordPress.com – Import to self-hosted – time out – solution?

  • I have set up a fresh WP installation using a One Click install on Dreamhost.

    Now I want to download my content from WP.com and upload it to Dreamhost.

    I tested this by exporting my content using the wordpress-admin-export to a file on my hard drive. Then I imported to an installation on localhost. It failed and following advice on here, I edited my .htaccess to increase the max execution time from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Success.

    At Dreamhost, I am getting the same error but I don’t have access to my .htaccess file there.

    Any suggestions?
