• Is there a way to export posts from a WordPress site you are writing for? In the case where you don’t have admin status can you export your own content from the site? Mainly I am thinking I would like an easier and faster way to make a back up copy of what I have written on a friend’s site. (With the images and even comments, if possible).

I do have author/ subscriber user status and it is my own original content. This is not about content scraping. I only want to export the content from my user name. Also, the site owner and I are on good terms so that is not an issue either.

    Thanks for any help.

  • You can have an admin user export all posts by a given user in an XML format. They can use Tools->Export, select posts, and then filter by category, date range, author, and post status, and then click the “Download Export File” button.

I know that. I run my own sites and have moved them around myself. I was hoping I could do it myself without asking for her help.

Seems writers on the site should be able to do this, without the admin. In my case I could ask (I just would rather not) but other writers on WP sites may need to back up or save their content without admin co-operation.

Not without giving you admin access to the site or adding code in the theme or through a plugin to allow non-admins that capability.

This is a good plugin idea though. I can definitely see it being useful for multi-authored sites. User can go their profile and click a button to download all posts they’ve authored.

I think it could be important for multi-author sites. Hopefully someone picks up the idea.
