Today I posted a reply to the support forum in which I propose a possible solution to a specific problem. To my surprise it got deleted without any form of feedback or notification.

It’s sad really, considering engaging and contribution is normally encouraged by the community. This anonymous action does not fit right with me. If there is something that was not right about the content of the post, some feedback would have been nice. I linked to Github which is not unsafe nor illegal. It was a few lines of code which the author could easily adapt into the plugin as per OP request.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Moved to Everything else WordPress, this is not a Requests and Feedback topic. Forum matters are for this sub-forum.

I was in the process of replying to that post when you posted this one. I’ll reply here.

I linked to Github which is not unsafe nor illegal.

That reply was archived and the topic closed because you were resurrecting a 4 month old topic. You also used that reply to let people know about your fork of that plugin. That’s been abused by others in the past.

That’s not appropriate as that sub-forum is for that plugin. It’s not for moving the topic somewhere else such as github for your fork.

If you need support for that plugin then please raise a support topic there. This link will let you do that.

If you do raise a support topic, please limit that to the forums and that plugin. Do not use that forum or any of these forums to inform people about your fork or take the conversation outside of the forums here. That’s not what that forum is for; it’s for supporting that author’s code here.

Hi Jan, thanks for your reply. My intent was not about to let people know about my fork as a goal in itself. I created the fork specifically because I do not know (which I stated in my post) how to contribute to the plugin in Trac or Slack. I never used those channels before (I’m not a very skilled developer).

Putting the code in Github, seemed the easiest and quickest way to do so. The OP had the same request as me. I made it work on my installation (because the thread was already 4 months old and no updates were made ever since) and so I offered my solution to that problem instead.

I was assuming the plugin author got to see my reply and could incorporate the code into the plugin.

I appreciate that and I hope you create a new topic with some details or as suggested above, a pull request.

Ok, thanks. I will try to sort out a pull request. Never done that before either so I will raise my fire insurance just in case ??
