• Hi!

I have a blog on music and history in Berlin and I would like to get feedback on some issues. https://www.zeitschichten.com

My goal is to increase the number of articles on the blog significantly. I intend to have short notices of upcoming events, concert reviews, cd reviews, book reviews, and longer articles about all aspects of musical life and history here in Berlin.

I think that with the number af posts increasing, the layout I am currently using will not suffice any longer. I would like to be able to post featured articles and summaries of posts on the front page. I am not quite sure yet but I am probably thinking about some sort of newspaper layout that would allow me to group a few posts in various columns all over the frontpage. Users can then easily find what they are interested in and click on the appropriate article to read the full story.

As you can see I have a rather big portion of the screen taken up by the logo already and with a featured article visitors will see only the featured article and the logo and nothing else.

Do you have any recommendations concering a layout that would fit my needs? Do you think that wordpress is a good system for this kind of publication or should I switch to a CMS like Joomla or Mambo?

I have no skills in web layout, but I know some php.

Thank you for your help and suggestions!
    Matthias

  • you can do it with WP but you might need to hire a theme designer, or learn about design and CSS more. Or find a really perfect theme to start hacking on.

Look around at some of the other music blogs and magazines that use WP. There are some great ones, that you’ll be amazed are basic WP sites with a cool custom theme.

I figure you’ll want a 1024-pixel wide theme, with 2 sidebars, great navigation, bold graphics, and an announcement area above your posts.

Thanks for your help! Can you recommend any music blogs that I might take a look at?

    Thanks again!

this one really impressed me, but it probably took a lot of customizing the theme… point is, WP can do this, if you can design it or hire someone to make your theme:

there are MANY more, just search Google for “powered by WordPress”, or search this forum for “music” or “magazine”
