Expand the Link Manager?
-
I was thinking about something that might be of interest to people in regards to the Link Manager. With the introduction of pages in WP 1.5, and a few themes (Manji and Kubrick, to name a couple) using a links page, it would be nice if there was a bit more control over how things were displayed on those pages. As it stands now, the link description is the same field as the title, and if you choose to show updates, it also shows in the title of said link.
I suppose what I’m going to ask is this: Would it be possible to separate the title of the link and an actual description (perhaps your own comments about the link?) into individual fields, add more styling options (before and after the actual link, and then before and after the actual description, similar to how it is now), and the ability to place the updated date where you wanted it?
For instance, if I wanted to set up a definition list (remember, this is just an example) for my links page, I could set the dl tag to the link’s category ID/name, the dt tag could be set to the link name with the update time beside it, and the dd tag could have the description field of the link. I may be asking a lot in this, but it seems that the link manager is lacking some of the customization that the rest of wordpress allows.
Forgive the length of this post, and any confusion it might have caused. I hope I was fairly clear in what I was asking, though. I’m looking forward to hearing other thoughts about this. Thanks for taking the time to read it! ??
