• Hi folks,

I just inherited a business WP website and they want me to add a blog page. I see where blog posts are created and we don’t have any (obviously) but how do I get the blog posts to show on a new page called “blog”. Hope that makes sense!

  • just create a page titled “Blog” without any info – save it
    go to
    admin – settings – reading
select this page to be blog page

You know, I was really really hoping it would be something that easy. I will try asap. Thanks so much!

Doh! I create the blog page and then I directed to https://www.domainname.us/blog and I get this error:

You don’t have permission to access /blog/index.php/blog/ on this server.

Am I using the wrong path?

    Thanks!

    that’s strange
    edit the page
what does the permalink structure look like right above the editor window?

edit – in fact, what is your permalink structure?
    admin – settings – permalinks

Well first this is 2.0.5 so it’s a bit funky anyway. I couldn’t find the structure listed above the editor window but…

    The permalink structure is Custom:
    /index.php/%postname%

sorry then – I assumed you were on the latest version
undo what you did – it won’t work
not sure what you would do on 2.0.5
that is an insecure version – you might consider an incremental upgrade
    2.0.5 -> 2.1 -> 2.3 -> 2.5 -> 2.7.1
this will give you way more options with the set up, also

Thanks again for the advice. I guess the server that hosts the site isn’t up-to-date enough to allow for upgrading. I know. All around no fun for a webmaster.

So the directory structure is just domain and then underneat wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes and then loose files…

Would it be possible to install WP again in a folder called blog (under the domain)? Or would it compete with the main site?

you can do that – you can install as many as you want
