I have been using Wordfence for a long time on my website, but I just logged in and noticed it isn’t activated. I don’t remember deactivating it (I am the only admin on my site), and when reactivating the plugin, it advises me that “wordfence-waf.php” already exists (not surprising, considering I was using the plugin before) and that I should contact you here before proceeding.

Do I need to be worried that my site may have been hacked? It is still online and working without issue.

    Also, how shall I proceed?

    Hi @ninelittlebees

Can you share a link for a screenshot of where you are seeing this notice please.

Did you do something to generate the notice?

Also, I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and ninelittlebees as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

Sorry about the late reply – I have not been getting email alerts from www.remarpro.com.

I had previously been using Wordfence, but (as said earlier) recently noticed it was not activated. I don’t know how long it was deactivated for, but it is quite likely it was previously activated with a previous version of WP, and possibly even an earlier version of PHP. This notice came up after re-activating Wordfence, and going to its settings page in my WP dashboard.

You can find the screenshot for this notice at https://ibb.co/S6DH5nm.

Diagnostic report has just been emailed to you.

    Hi @ninelittlebees

Thank you for the update and no need to say sorry!

Can you run this test for me.

In the Basic Firewall Options section on the All Options page, the Protection Level sub-section should say Basic WordPress Protection.

Look in your public_html directory for a .user.ini file and a .htaccess file.

Copy one or both files, depending on what you find, and place the copied file/s in the public_html/wp-admin directory.

Now reload the All Options page and see if the Protection Level sub-section now says Extended Protection.

    Let me know the outcome.

You must delete the copies of the .user.ini file and / or .htaccess file that you added to the public_html/wp-admin directory.
