Multisite – I’m a super admin and am adding users to sites. When I add a completely new user to a site, the user gets an email with a confirmation link, as expected.

But if I add an existing user to a site, no confirmation email and user is not added to the site.

I know I can check the box not to send a confirmation email and add them automatically, but I don’t want to have to train my site admins to always check this box….it’s not sustainable in terms of support with many many site admins.

    Any ideas?

    Wait… I’m confused

But if I add an existing user to a site, no confirmation email and user is not added to the site.

So you’re saying existing users are not being added, or was that a typo? Becuase that would be a problem.

The confirmation emails should be filterable.

Actually not a typo….if a user currently has an account and then added to another site, the confirmation email is not being sent, so the user can’t confirm and is therefore not added to the site.

I feel like it’s new behavior. We’ve been testing for months and I have added folks to sites on many occasions. I have tested it now on 4 different multisite installations – both directory and subdomain installs. Same behavior.

My current theory is that it is a php security configuration on the server but I’ve had one tester report that she DID receive the confirmation email 12 hours after being added… I guess I’ll also check with our email admin guy to make sure they aren’t blocking those notifications for some reason. But a mystery why it would be limited to existing account holders and not those with new accounts. (If I add them at the network admin level first and then add them to the site, the email is not sent.)

I’ve seen some other complaints of similar behavior and they reported that it was addressed by using a SMTP plugin so that may be my next step if the php configuration theory and mail server blocking theory don’t pan out.

We really don’t need the confirmation email at all. Public registrations are not allowed and the vast majority of users will create their own sites (accounts are created automatically via shibboleth when they log in). But when they need to add a collaborator manually to multiple sites, it’s going to be an issue.

Can you try upgrading to 3.9.4?

Sorry, sooo many things going on at once. Brain fart. Try 4.0?

hey….so…..evidently you have fixed something behind the scenes. not sure how you do that. ??

I met with the app admin to research it and it worked every time from all 4 servers.

We’re looking into the possibility that our email server or google was putting them into a central spam repository. or that I had a bad dream.

    So…..Errrrdsf;ljsdafsdf
