Hello, I’m trying to set up Site Kit on my wordpress website. I have managed to connect Search Console, PageSpeed Insights and Tag Manager, but when I try to connect Analytics at get this message:

Error: Your Google account does not have sufficient permissions for this Analytics account, so you won’t be able to see stats from it on the Site Kit dashboard. This service was originally connected by an administrator — you can contact them for more information.

An existing Universal Analytics tag was found on your site with the ID UA-XXXXXXX-2. Since this tag refers to the same property selected here, Site Kit will not place its own tag and rely on the existing one. If later on you decide to remove this tag, Site Kit can place a new tag for you.

How do I resolve this? I can log into Google Analytics separately with my same google account that I am using to set up Site Kit and access data from the same Analytics tag for the website, but I can’t get it to connect through site kit. I’ve tried resetting site kit and accessing for an incognito browser – no luck.

As history, I did previously used Site Kit briefly, then removed it. I also tried using the plugin Google Tag Manager for WordPress but it didn’t work for me.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there @matosan1,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing details of the error you’re encountering. This error indicates that there is an existing Google Analytics property existing on your site, not placed via Site Kit. To ensure there are not more than one Google Analytics snippets the plugin reverts to this existing property at present, rather than allowing users to place more than once Google Analytics snippet.

In addition this connected property seems to be part of a Google Analytics account to which you don’t have access to. This may have been from another a Google account of your own, if you have more than one Google accounts.

I’d be happy to help you resolve this. In order to do so please share the following:

    1. Do you know of any other administrators for your site, who may have also connected Site Kit?
If there are none do you have another Google account which you may have used to created the existing Google Analytics property?
    2. Do you recall adding Google Analytics to this site previously? From checking your site source code the existing Google Analytics property may have been inserted via WooCommerce or a third party plugin.

We also have some information on the plugin website in relation to this permissions error.

    Hello,

I am having a similar issue. I have multiple GA tracking tags that are preventing me from adding a conversion tracking tag from Google Ads. I have tried everything over the moon to try to find the source code and remove the duplicates but I have not had any luck.

What’s more strange, is that when I use plug-ins to modify the header, the code that the plug-ins show is not the same as when I inspect the page on Chrome. I can see all the duplicate tags in the Chrome page inspection code, but not in WP.

I had tried using the Site Kit plug-in to activate tags manager, and still, I can’t get rid of the existing duplicate tags.

    Hi @tkorcaconservancy,

If you’d like to open an individual support topic we can assist with any Site Kit queries you may have from there. If you’re experiencing a duplicate tag issue this may not be specific to Site Kit however we can certainly take a look at your setup. You can also check for the existence or existing Google Analytics or Tag Manager tags from tagassistant.google.com if you wish.

Hello @jamesosborne, thank you for your response.
    In answer to your questions:

Do you know of any other administrators for your site, who may have also connected Site Kit?

    – I am the only administrator of the site. There has never been other admins.

If there are none do you have another Google account which you may have used to created the existing Google Analytics property?

    – I only have one google account.

Do you recall adding Google Analytics to this site previously? From checking your site source code the existing Google Analytics property may have been inserted via WooCommerce or a third party plugin.

    – I did previously add site kit, then removed it. Now I have added it again. I also have the following google related plugins on the site: Google Listings and Ads (active), Google Tag Manager for WordPress(inactive), Meta Tag Manager (active),
    WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration (Active).

Do you have any suggestion on how to address this?

Many thanks for providing these additional insights. Based on your comments I wonder is there a hosting or third party plugin inserted Analytics snippet on your site. I’d be happy to assist in trying to determine the source if you’d like to share your Site Health information.

You may also wish to check for any WooCommece Google Analytics settings. From reviewing your site it’s possible there may be some WooCommerce Analytics integration added. If you temporary deactivate WooCommerce you can check for the existance of any Google analytics snippets using tagassistant.google.com.

Once I have your Site Health information I can perform some additional checks. Thank you!

I’ve loaded the site health information into your linked survey. can you let me know if anything is apparent in that info? I will look at the woocommerce analytics later today.

Thanks @jamesosborne – I think I got my issue figured out.

@matosan1 From checking the Site Health information that you kindly provided I can see you have the “WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration” plugin active. Can you check the configurations for any existing snippet? You’ll find the setting under the “WooCommerce > Settings > Integrations” tab.

Let me know if you have any existing value in there. If not we can check your theme and other plugins. If you can locate an existing snippet check does this compare with the property shown during Site Kit setup.

@tkorcaconservancy Glad to hear that! If you run into any further issues or have any queries be sure to reach out to is here in the forums.

@matosan1 Were you able to determine the source of the snippet, and if so connect Site Kit with your preferred Analytics property?
