EXIF ( and IPTC ) data is extracted from the photofiles during import or upload.

When the photos are resized on the server, this data gets lost; this is inherent to the resizing process.

The EXIF and IPTC data is extracted and saved to wppa+ db tables at the time of upload/import IF Table IX-H7 and 8 are checked.

In Table X an XI, you will find the items that have ever been found in the photofiles on the current site.

If you did not save the data during upload/import there may be a way to recover them afterwards:

If you did NOT resize during upload ( See Table I-A2 ) OR you saved sources ( See Table IX-H1 and 2 ) you can – after ticking the boxes in IX-H7 and 8 – run the ‘recuperate’ maintenance procedure in Table VIII-A7.

If you did resize during upload AND you did not save sources, you can ftp all the originals to your wppa-depot ( See the import screen ) and run the import process ( the Ajax button ) WITH THE UPDATE PHOTOS CHECKBOX CHECKED ). You do not need to specify the albums this way, so it will not be too complex to do.

I hope this explains and can help you to find the required exif data.

Using this data is explained here: https://wppa.opajaap.nl/iptc-and-exif-data/

    Hi again Jacob

Thank you for the comprehensive answer.

I ran the recuperate process – I’m not sure if it added any data but I did find the data I am looking for in one of the undefined tags at the end of Table XI – it is Tag #66 E#A434, labeled as UndefinedTag:0xA434:

On my images it shows the lens data – for example if you go to here you can see it in the EXIF panel.

Can you label this tag as ‘Lens Data’ in your next release? Can I change the description now in any way?

    Kind regards

    Leon

    Hi again

I just realised I can change the description myself in the settings panel!!!

One last suggestion(?) – Can we have a display order for the EXIF data (I don’t use IPTC but I would think the same might apply).

    Kind regards

    Thanx for your donation.

Changing the name of the exif tag will only work for new installations, and i only put names in that are officially assigned by the exif organisation.

Every camera manufacturer is free to add his own tags, this is poorly stanarized. This is also the reason i made it possible to edit it yourself.

The EXIF box in slideshows is just the full list.

You can make your own layout in the description fields as explained in the doc page previously mentioned.

    Thanks again Jacob

I believe (but may be wrong) that the lens data is part of the CIPA standard..I looked at this document and on p42 in section H at the bottom it seems to imply that it is a standard.

I’m not sure what you mean by new installations? Does that mean the change will get removed if the plugin is updated?

    Kind regards

    Leon
