Excluding Images from Gallery

Is there any way to exclude certain images uploaded for a certain post to be excluded when inserting a gallery? I see that this issue has been raised several times over the years, but as far as I can tell the issue has never been resolved. In fact, it’s kind of weird that I often see the last post in a thread is someone asking a question or saying something like “Please help” and yet somehow the topic gets closed/is resolved. Is it that just after a certain amount of time a thread gets closed not because it’s resolved but just that it’s old…? That’s not really why I brought this up, but I am curious about that.

Anyway, I’d love it if someone has some advice re: excluding photos from a gallery. Thanks.
