excluding catagories from blog page

How do I best exclude a specific category of posts from my blog page? I would like the category “community” to appear only in the Communities page and not on the blog page also. Short coding the Communities Page to show posts from the “community” category worked well but I can’t seem to get php in the blog template to exclude these posts from the blog.

I have not done this for a while so please pretend you are talking to an idiot (You may not be far off. ?? )
