Exclude image caption from excerpt

First of all, thanks for this plugin. I’ve been using it for a number of years, however, in my latest use of it in the twentyseventeen theme. I have the widget displaying on the home page of the site. The image thumbnails appear just fine, but the caption of the image is appended to the excerpt. If you take a look at my site here, and page down to the “latest posts”, you’ll see some extraneous verbiage at the start of the excerpts. This is coming from the image caption within the posts and I’d like to suppress them, preferably through my function.php.

Any pointers on this would be greatly appreciated!
