Exclude Categories option breaks all searching

When selecting “Exclude Categories” and inserting a valid category ID (example: 92), ALL searching fails. But when I don’t add any category ID to exclude (in other words, search everything), the plugin works fine and as expected for text, categories, tags, etc. But as soon as I add an category to be excluded, searching for ANYTHING (text, category, tag, title, etc) fails.
Plugin version: Version 8.1.6 (downloaded & tested 12/1/16)
